What is the BJT?

The BJT tests how well you use Japanese at work: understanding instructions, reading emails, choosing polite expressions with clients. Here is what the test is, who takes it and what the result is used for.

Who runs it

The BJT Business Japanese Proficiency Test is run by the Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation (日本漢字能力検定協会, Kanken). It is taken on a computer (CBT) at Pearson VUE test centres in Japan and many other countries, including Vietnam.

What it measures

Questions put you in workplace situations: listen to a phone call and choose what to do, combine a chart with what you hear, read an email and choose the right reply. Keigo (敬語) appears in all three parts.

You get a score report (スコアレポート) when you leave the centre. After 3 days you can print the certificate (成績認定書) from your Pearson VUE account. It does not expire.

Fees, centres and rules can change. Always check the official Kanken site and Pearson VUE before you apply.
